It’s one thing to have a recipe. It’s quite another to dare to experiment, to play around with the ingredients, to create something new. At Far West, we’ve been doing both for almost a decade.
Our original beers — Golden Star, Lucky Red, Black Diamond — are the heart of Far West. They’re the ones that put us on the map, the ones that made us pioneers of craft beer in Almería. But the world of beer is vast. And we’re curious.
Over the years, we’ve launched a number of special editions. Each one has been an opportunity to explore new styles, new combinations of malts and hops, and new flavours. Some of these special editions have included:
Wild APA: Our take on the American Pale Ale, featuring American hops that bring citrus and herbal aromas. Smoke Moon: A Rauchbier inspired by the Bamberg tradition, with malts smoked over beech wood. The Preacher: A complex, malty abbey beer with aromas of toffee and treacle. Bad Barley: Our Barley Wine, an intense beer that matures in the bottle and improves with age.
To talk about Bad Barley is to talk about patience. This beer, with an alcohol content of 7.2 per cent, is the most complex in our range. It is brewed with a blend of malts that give it notes of toffee, molasses and brown sugar. But the most fascinating aspect is how it develops. Over time, Bad Barley develops aromas reminiscent of sherry or port. It is a beer to keep, to wait for, and to enjoy when it reaches its peak.
Why do we produce special editions? Because that’s what craft beer is all about: experimentation, creativity, freedom. Because we like to surprise our customers. Because every new recipe is a challenge. And also because the world of beer is endless. There’s always something new to try, something new to create.
